The 2-7-1 is a very midfield-heavy formation, using at least 5 inner midfielders. It is usually undesirable for regular club teams because fielding more than three inner midfielders will cause a loss of training. National teams sometimes use this formation to gain a superior midfield, but it will certainly cause confusion.
