Attack on Wings
|Attack in the middle|
|Attack on wings|
Attack on Wings (AoW) tactics raises the probability that your team attacks on the two sides of the field, lowering at the same time the probability that a chance is created in the middle.
Using AoW, the game keeps adding a modifier throughout the match and the effectiveness is reported with a level of tactics at the start of the game and in the match ratings. When calculating AoW level, an experience bonus is added for each involved player.
Every AoW chance conversion is reported with events and lost opportunities are detailed.
The distribution of regular chances between center, wings and set pieces (direct or indirect) is 35%, 25% (left and right), 15%. When getting a center chance playing AoW tactics, there is a 20-40% chance of it being converted to a wing attack, based on your skill level in the tactic. This means that at maximum efficiency, you get 40% less chances through the middle in average, which means 21% instead of 35%, and the chance of getting a chance over the wings increases accordingly to 32% each in average.
|Sum of Passing skill
of all team players
|110 or more||divine|
Example: Sum of Passing for your players is 60. Formula: [sum of Passing]/5 - 2 = 60/5 - 2 = 12 - 2 = 10 So your AOW tactical skill is Outstanding (10).
Benefits and drawbacks
At the price of weakening of the central defence, the AoW tactics allows you to push on the sides where (hopefull) your attacks are stronger.
As with all predictable formations and tactics, if you use AoW all the time, don't be surprised when the opposition stack the central defense against you.
You need Passing, Passing, Passing. All your players must have Passing.
There's no particular Specialty directly bound to this tactics.
It depends on your training.
Training Passing could be an excellent solution.
In the old version of the manual, AoW was presented with a maximum 40% conversion rate and related to series level:
|This is an extract from the Hattrick rules, Chapter 11|
|With an exceptional skill, you will get something like 40% more attacks on Wings. To qualify for "exceptional", more is required of teams in a top level game than in a Divison IV fixture, and the same relative level is taken into account for the other tactic types as well. At a minimum you are guaranteed to get 20% more attack on Wings. Depending on your skill, you will end up somewhere in between these two extremes.|
There was some debate over the effectiveness of this tactic, with some trainers feeling it is not as effective as the rules suggest. The feeling was proven true with a MyHT message on 24th June 2008:
|More effective attack on wings tactic||24/06/2008|
|Because of a bug, the attack on wings tactic has up until now been less effective than originally planned. This bug, which was very hard to discover and has even managed to slip through our sharp eyes in previous checks, has now at last been found and fixed. As a result, attack on wings will from now on be more effective than before. Exactly how effective it will be depends on your tactical skill (as always).
This bug fix will be in effect from today's matches on.
