Sealand Cup XII was the twelfth edition of the Sealand Cup, the friendly competition of the Sealand federation and was held in (Dutch) season 27 (returning after being not played during season 25 and 26). The final was held at Kings Castle on 29 April 2009, where AFC Hellas 192 defeated FC Nog Knuddiger 11–0, the largest winning margin in a final to date. Defending champions The Jazz Messengers did not compete in the tournament.
Participating teams
10 teams intended to participate in the Sealand Cup XII. In the end, de Poi de Poi could not play any match, because they entered another friendly competition. Five teams made their début.
Note: Sutem Sungam participated for the first time, but manager Suzanna had participated three times in the past with Magnus Metus (their best result was the quarterfinals during the second edition).

The teams were drawn at random into three groups. As the number of participating teams (ten) was not divisible by four, two groups were composed of only three teams.
Group Stage
The Group Stage of the twelfth Sealand Cup ran from 1 to 15 April 2009.
Format
The four teams in Group A played each other in a single round-robin format, playing the other teams in the group once (at home or away). Group B and C had three teams each that played each other in a single round-robin format. The two remaining teams played each other. Each team earned 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. The winners of each group and the best runner-up advanced to the semi-finals. Teams that did not challenge their opponent or accept their opponent's challenge were penalized with an automatic 5–0 defeat.

Note: the withdrawal of de Poi de Poi was advantageous to the other Group A teams for the sake of qualifying, as they were de facto reduced to a three-team group and received three points which the Group B and Group C teams still had to play. Furthermore, the inter-group matches led to the unusual situation that the teams in that group did not have an equal strength of schedule. For statistical purposes only, the following teams would have qualified if only the intra-group matches were taken into account:
- Group A: AFC Hellas 192 (3 points, 12–4) would still have been group winner, with FC Nog Knuddiger (3 points, 4–6) second and Kluytmans Interieurs/Mazars (3 points, 5–11) third, but FC Nog Knuddiger would not have qualified as best runner-up.
- Group B: Utrechtseboys (6 points, 16–3) would still have been group winner, with FC Sammie de Cavia (3 points, 8–6) second and Sutem Sungam (0 points, 1–16) third, but FC Sammie de Cavia would have qualified as best runner-up.
- Group C: SC RedHead (4 points, 8–5) would have been group winner instead of Kings Squad (3 points, 4–5) and FC Kiek op het Veld (1 point, 3–5) would have been ranked third.
Knockout Stage
The next stage of the tournament was the Knockout Stage. Four teams qualified for this stage (the group winners, accompanied by the best runner-up). The winners of Group A and C would face each other in the semi-finals, with the winner of Group B facing the best runner-up. If the best runner-up was from Group B, the winners of Group B and C would have switched pairings. All knockout matches were played at a neutral venue. Kings Castle, the home stadium of Kings Squad, was for the second time selected as host for the final.
