The World Cup is an international tournament for National Teams. A new World Cup campaign is started nearly as soon as the old campaign is completed, which takes two seasons. The tournament is being held for the twelfth time currently.

The final rounds of a World Cup campaign are hosted by one nation. This nation is determined by the HTs. World Cup XII will be hosted by Colombia, the third South American country to do so. The first World Cup ever was hosted by Nippon and Hanguk back in 2002, the same year these countries also hosted the real-life world cup. The same happened again in 2006 when Deutschland hosted the cup both in Hattrick and in real-life.

Only one country hosted a World Cup twice so far, Deutschland (U-20 World Cup I and World Cup VIII).

Only one country managed to win the normal World Cup more than once, Sverige. Sverige also managed a title Hattrick twice, winning World Cups I to III and World Cups V to VII. This is mostly due to them being the oldest nation in Hattrick and thus being the one with the greatest players.

The World Cup visited 13 nations so far, three from Asia, one from North America, three from South America and six from Europe. This means all continents except Africa and Oceania hosted a World Cup.

Modus operandi

The qualification round starts with national teams from all countries that are a part of Hattrick at the start of the campaign.

The world cup format The World Cup begins every second season and starts with a qualification round. 32 teams advance from this round to the World Cup. There are three round-robin group stages, with 4 teams to a group and the top two teams qualifying for the next stage. The final two rounds are playoff matches, beginning with the semi-finals and culminating in the World Cup Final. [...] Seeding for World Cup Round I is based on ranking, which is determined by previous World Cup results. When no World Cup matches are scheduled, the national teams can play friendlies.
