Prev/Next Season 70 Season 72

Belgian Season 58, or Global Season 71, was the twenty-ninth full season in which Red Star Brussels participated, and the eigth after the new start of the team. They played in League V.176.

Season Synopsis

Home and Away shirts used in Season 70, based on the R. Antwerp FC shirts.

Stadium

The Red Star Brussels stadium, the Leon Trotski Arena, was not enlarged, and continued to hold 62.000 places.

Change of shirts

Red Star Brussels continued with the fifth of a six-season series of special edition shirts that commemorate shirts worn by the favourite teams of manager Lunacharsky, each in a setting referring to a special period in those teams' history. In season 70, they used the shirts Royal Antwerp FC used in the season 2017-18; the first year they played again in first division after years in lower divisions.

Season Summary

The ambition of the team was again to remain in fifth division, preferably without having to play a qualification game.

In the Belgium Cup, Red Star won their first two cup games, but lost in the third round against KVK Strike. The team then played two more rounds in the Sapphire Cup, until they were eliminated in the second round by vbsp.

Homegrown team

Red Star Brussels continued to develop their homegrown team strategy, specifically by training midfielders. Central Midfielders Axel Clauwaert, Vic Clauwaerts and Didier Joliot and wingers Marnix Viatour and Chris Gilbert became the team's first team players, with Artaxerxis Ntrasenas, Tony Desplanque, Gatien Crombez, Pierre-Henri Coupry training as defenders or wingbacks. It was expected that Franco Medrino, Jeroen Vloerberghen, Volkert Moens, Frederik Graetz and Gerwoud Gournay would be promoted from the youth to take up a future role in the first team this season.
