Belgian Season 27, or Global Season 40, is the first full season in which Red Star Gent participates. As one of only 3 human teams in the league at the beginning of the season, SVV Red Star Gent is considered as one of the top favourites to win the competition, and to promote to League VIII.1432.
Season Synopsis
Name
Although on September 15th 2009 a poll amongst the supporters officialy adopted the name "SVV Red Star Gent" as the team's name, the team played its' matches as "Rode Ster Gent", because the season had already started, and the name couldn't be changed again
Stadium
The Red Star Gent stadium, the Leon Trotski Stadium, was enlarged during the season. During week 2, 100 VIP-boxes where added, to bring the total size of the stadium to 12 100 places.
Overview of the Season
Because Red Star Gent was founded only on August 18th 2009, they only got to play the final game of the competition. Season 40 is the first one in which RSG will play the whole 14 matches.
Already in the first match against United KV, RSG proved to be one of the main competitors for the title in League IX.1432. RSG won 3-0, and positioned itself in the top of the table. In the days after the match, four players were transferred to Red Star Gent: Albertico Ferrero, Jean-Rémy Communal, Dragomir Pivec and Rami Lehvonen. Two days later, another player came to the team, Floris-Jan Schoep, the next day, Ray de Vreede arrived at the team.
The second game of the competition, RSG visited title rivals SKDH United, one of the other two teams controlled by a human player. The game ended in a dissapointing 2 - 0 loss, throwing RSG back to a 4th position. RSG then faced tillicollapse at home.
On Matchday 3, SVV Red Star Gent welcomed tillicollapse in the Leon Trotski Stadium. The visitors were welcomed with 4 balls in their goal in the first half time of the game. The second half doubled the score, ensuring a 8 - 0 record win for RSG! With this score, the 74% ball possession of Red Star Gent seemed all the more credible.
Matchday 4 brought a new record: a 2-7 win on the field of Celtic Lissewege: never before there were so many goals in a Red Star Gent game! Because of this victory, and the defeat of mojenox, RSG mounted to the second place in the competition, 1 point behind leader SKDH United. SKDH played 1-1 on the field of De Rose Flikker, giving RSG again control over their own fate: winning against SKDH on the before-last matchday would mean Red Star Gent will win the championship.
Serban Predescu arrived at Ghent during week 5, as a replacement for Torben Heyde Petersen who went to HETMAN SWORDS in Ireland.
mojenox was the team to beat during Matchday 5. mojenox recently became an ownerless team, after its human manager didn't log in since August 18th. The players, staff and supporters of Red Star Gent were as such very hopeful to obtain a good result. In a very tensioned game, in which newcomer Serban Predescu received two yellow cards, and as such a red card, RSG finally won 5-1. The team strenghted as such its second position in the competition, creating a gap of 3 points with first follower Los Kimmos, and staying one point behind leader SKDH United.
RSG announced during week 6 the arrival of 3 new young attackers: Pat Bohlinger, Nikola Simić and Olexandr Panchenko. They had to ensure to have more attacking possibilities, certainly for the season that would follow.
The supporters that travelled to Ronse for the game against Los Kimmos on Matchday 6 saw their team coming behind for the first time since the loss against SKDH United. Luckily,Red Star Gent soon was able to correct the situation, and came ahead 1-4 before halftime. The final 1-6 was a fair result, given the enormous overweight of RSG.
Given the continuing fall of the defence skills of Ulrik Falkenner and William Rockwell, Red Star Gent contracted a new central defender, Alessio Bartolomeo.
Matchday 7 saw two new records: a record number of 7410 spectators watched the record 9-0 win against De Rose Flikker. RSG confirmed with this win its second position, and increased the gap with the closest competitor mojenox to 6 points.
On Matchday 8, RSG didn't see any reason to break with its tradition of winning every single game, and defeated De Rose Flikker again 0-6. The gap with closest competitors Los Kimmos rose to 9 points.
During the mid-week of week 9, trainer Frank Frederix decided to stop his training carreer, and left the team. French coach Sylvestre Mougin was hired to replace him on the bench. Also, fc kanisjotski's replaced bot team Los Kimmmos just before matchday 9, this obligating RSG to play against a human player. Nick Kusolitsch and Stanislav Brus were recruited to once again reinforce the defence of the team.
The tenth match on the field of mojenox proved a little bit difficult: only in last quarter of the game RSG was able to make the difference. The team finally won 1-4. On this moment, the promotion to Division VIII was very close, only United KV would still be able to keep RSG from promoting. The game against Celtic Lissewege next week ensure a mathematical certainty for Red Star Gent for promotion.
During the midweek, two players were attracted: Bernd Bruylandt and Leonides Salvadores. These players arrived in Ghent to get support with their training schedule, but will be retransferred soon after.
Matchday 11 brought another smashing victory: Red Star Gent defeated Celtic Lissewege again with 9-0 at home. With this victory, promotion was 99% certain obtained: only if RSG would lose its three coming matches, and United KV would score 38 times more then Red Star, the promotion would be prevented. The possibility that this happens is almost null.
Two players were attracted to get support with their training schedule: Florian Scheffer and Mathies Elgert. During the friendly game against Iranian side barcelonaye babol, Tom Gaal broke his ankle. Soon it became clear that his injury would last for a very long time, so replacements where sought for the unlucky goalkeeper: Zacarías Blanco, Marcos Sebastián Lasarte and Eugen Kalapać joined the team. Kelvin Laurijssen and Davy Boekaerts decided to leave the team.
During Matchday 12, the promotion to division VIII was assured. Red Star Gent won 0-4 on the field of tillicollapse, thus making the gap with first follower fc kanisjotski's 9 points wide, impossible to overcome in the two coming games of the season. The next big step would be the confrontation with leader SKDH United for the title in League IX.1432.
During the midweek, RSG announced that Bernd Bruylandt would stay in the team. Xavier Meerbergen, Joris Gason, William Rockwell, Michel Chardon, Xavier Bizarro, Rinus Ryckoort and Lambik Van Den Borre decided to leave the team.
The Thirteenth match against SKDH United was very tensed, but finaly Red Star Gent lost 1-2. With this result, the final position of the team was assured: SKDH United won the title, RSG became second. Both teams would promote to Division VIII.
The last week of the competition, David Albu, Francisco Echaray and Siniša Šusterič came to Red Star Gent. This players will leave the team again after a short training period. Florian Scheffer left the team.
The final matchday 14, Red Star Gent had to face United KV. RSG imposed themselves 0-6, and became second at 1 point to leader SKDH United, who lost against fc kanisjotski's. Joël Crahay became topscorer with 13 goals.
