Italia U-20 national team has represented Italy in juniores international friendlies and the U-20 World Cup from 2002 to 2021 when they became U-21. The last match was the world cup semi-final against Germany, the upcoming champion. The Italian NT U-20 won a total of 4 world champion titles and played in 6 cup finals.

Italy also hosted two world cups: U-20 World Cup VI in which the NT U-20 qualified for the event, but was eliminated in Round III; and U-20 World Cup XX when they played it up to the final and became champions.

The "banner challenge", an official open contest in local forum, is traditionally the way the italian community starts a new mandate of NT and Under-20/21.
This tradition has been started by coach Pennywise80 during U-20 WC 10 campaign.
