Offence

Winger is a player's position within Hattrick. A winger can be placed left or right on the midfield of a team and he gives his contribute to ratings of Side and Central Attacks, Midfield and Side and Central Defence.

Skills

Defining what the primary skill of a winger is may be just a matter of points of view: it should obviously be Winger, but some managers will surely say Playmaking! Others are looking for Defending to play a him both as a Winger and as a Wing Back. And it's much better he has high Stamina to give a real help to Midfield ratings with High PM winger at low wage pressure.

The truth is that a winger's training (see below) must complete him in all Crossing, Playmaking, Defending skills and also add as much Passing as possible in his busy training schedule.

In a winger 4 levels of Passing are nearly equivalent to a level of Crossing.

Contribution

Wingers main function is to provide your team with decent attack on the side where he is fielded. They also give a great contribution to midfield and defence as well.

Specialities

Wingers are an often overlooked position, but they are very ductile. There is also individual goal special events unique to wingers (Winger SE to Any Player or to Head Player).

You might want to have in your team at least one quick winger, which is a real SE machine, although all specialties have some value. Here is a ranking of specialties on Wingers:

Spec2Quick.png Quick winger — can create a frequent quick event (ending with an assist or direct shot), but he loses skills both in the rain and in the sun.
Spec4Unpred.png Unpredictable winger — with high passing can create SE chances (Scores on His Own or Special Action).
Spec5Head.png Head winger — improves chance of scoring on a set pieces.
Spec1Technic.png Technical winger — gains skills in the sun, but loses skills in the rain. He creates chances if an opposing defender is a head specialist (rare).
Spec3Power.png Powerful winger — improves in the rain, but have negative effects in the sun.

Training

Wingers can be trained in winger skill through Crossing (Winger) training or wing attacks training. Some may say that wingers are expensive, but they are the most complete players in a team and they require a longer training to be perfectly created. And they have relatively lower wage too, as multi-skilled player.

When it comes to a multi-skilled player like a winger, a strategic way to train them is essential. That's why someone says that crossing is not the right training for Newbies.

A good strategy is to buy trainees with high Playmaking. You can also field them twice a week (i.e., placing them as inner midfielder in league match and as winger in middle week match). Doing so, you can build a competitive team saving a little money and adding up experience that pays a dividend when selling a trainee.

If the team is strictly a CA team that is unconcerned with midfield, then it is perhaps not money worth spending. However if it is a team that looks to compete in midfield and have at least two attack fronts, it is a way to get more from x-3-x or x-4-x with-one-winger formations.
