Latvia (Latvija in local languages, Lețmō Vabāmō in Livonian) is a Northern European country. It was the 45th nation to join the Hattrick World.

The Republic of Latvia has near 2 millions inhabitants and a territory of 64 589 km2 (24 938 sq mi). Capital and largest city is Riga.
After centuries of Swedish, Polish, German and Russian rule, it broke away from the Russian Empire on 18 November 1918. After World War II, Soviets re-occupation established the Latvian SSR. In 1987 the peaceful Singing Revolution began against Soviet rule, resulting in the restoration of de facto independence on 20 August 1991.

History

• Latvian league exists since the 19 April 2002, and, like all new leagues, started with 168 teams in global season 16.
• In December 2002 Latvia expanded to 680 teams (4 divisions). After that, it has expanded twice: division 5 was added in Summer 2003, and division 6 was added in Autumn 2004.
• Every now and then, local community organized summer meetings or parties in honor of the cup or league winners.
• Latvia was the host country of the World Cup XXVIII, but NT failed to qualify for the event.

• Rumours suggest that the first Latvian user was spooky4malin, who started playing the game after a New Year's party in 2002.

Latvija's most famous federations are:

• LIAK - support club of Latvia's national,
• Karogu Rāvēji (for flagchasers)
• Latvijas Kaulu Lauzēji (for those who like to harm opponents player helth).

Of course, Latvians think big, so they haven't forgotten about global affairs, that's why miniature copies of global federations are created and maintained like Latvijas Pussargu Treneri (for midfielder trainers) and Latvijas Uzbrucēju Treneri (for scoring trainers).
