Tom Gaal (Hannover,  Deutschland) is a German football player who actualy plays for SVV Red Star Brussels. He is a goalkeeper.

Early career[edit]

Gaal started his career at the German team PrimaDivisioneCatania in Niedersachsen, Germany. He was scouted when playing with some classmates in the street. He showed great reflexes when diving for the ball. Tom Gaal started at the youth division of PrimaDivisioneCatania, and was soon promoted to the first team. He never played in the A-side, but was transferlisted in August 2009.

Career at SVV Red Star Brussels[edit]

First Keeper[edit]

Tom Gaal signed at SVV Red Star Brussels on August 19th 2009, when the Belgian team agreed on a transfer sum of 25 000€ with PrimaDivisioneCatania. RSB was looking for a goalkeeper, since their first squad didn't contain one that was talented enough to perform on that level. Gaal immediately made it to the basic team as first goalkeeper. He played every game during his first full season 40, untill he got injured in week 12. He returned to the pitch in the first official game of Season 41, and played most of the games in that season.

Second Keeper[edit]

During Season 41, a extremely gifted young keeper was discovered in the Red Star Brussels youth squad, Johannes Castiau. The team decided to have Castiau to develop, so he would in term become the first keeper of the team. This happened through season Season 42. The team management discussed this issue in a very open way with Tom Gaal, offering him a transfer if he would want to be a first keeper in another team. Tom decided however to stay at Red Star Brussels, and got involved in the training of Johannes Castiau. The team management decided to keep Tom Gaal as the second keeper, and to implicate him in the training activities of young keepers at RSB.
