Specialties
Player Specialties are special attributes that that differentiate some players in Hattrick from other players. A player may have only one specialty, and no more. All specialties, except Rare Specialties, may result in a special event during a match, some giving a scoring chance and some change performance due to weather. There are different events due to the same specialty (for example quick-passing and quick-scoring).
Some of the events that lead to a scoring chance are influenced by opposition players, sometimes leading to "game-planning" (as in using a technical player against a head defender, or matching a quick defender against a quick attacker).
You can increase the chance on special events by using the tactic Play creatively in a match.
List of Specialties
Head- Gives you increased scoring opportunities in corners.
- Each player adds about 7% average chance for a header event.
- Each player reduces about 5% average chance for opponent a header event.
Powerful- Players perform better in bad weather and worse in good weather.
- Powerful Defenders skill counts double on the tactic level of pressing.
- Powerful players will have an advantage when performing Man Marking.
Quick- Any Winger, Inner Midfielder or Forward can start a quick rush to score. If the exact opposite player is also quick, then he has 100% chance to stop the attack. Otherwise, nearby quick players might stop it instead, but they have a much smaller chance.
- Wingers, Inner Midfielders and Forwards can start a quick rush with a possible pass in their mind.
- Any quick Winger, Inner Midfielder and Forward will give a small boost on the Counter Attacks tactic (the range is reduced by opponent quick Wing Backs, Inner Midfielders and Defenders and goes from 0 up to 2.8 tactic levels).
Unpredictable- Any unpredictable player (except keepers) may read their opponents, dribble and create chances by sheer unpredictability of their passes.
- Wing backs, defenders and inner midfielders can have a bad day and make a fatal mistake. An opposing can take advantage of this.
- Unpredictable boosts Play Creatively tactic (experience and passing will be important).
- When Man Marking, an unpredictable player will be harder to man mark than others since you cannot predict him.
Technical- He performs better in good weather and worse in bad weather.
- Any technical Winger, Inner Midfielder and Forward can take advantage of it if the player on the exact opposite position is a header.
- During man marking, if your target is a technical player, then there might be a chance to have a bigger effect than any other player.
Rare Specialties
Some rare specialties also exist, in addition to the 5 well-known specialties. Players with rare specialties are harder to find. Regainer was the first new rare specialty to appear.
Resilient or Regainer- helps the player heal injuries faster than others. If they get injured, their injuries will be less severe than they would otherwise have been, and they heal faster. They will also have their skill-drop kick in at a slightly higher age than other players.
Support Player- When support players will try to help teammates that are close by on the field, they can randomly increase (or rarely decrease) central sectors rate (this makes the teammates perform better if successful, but if not successful it can cause a drop in organization).
Specialties by position
Goalkeeper
-
Unpredictable (only with high skill in passing)- A rare positive event chance may occur with conversion rate higher than 50%.
-
Powerful (only with high skill in defending)- It's not proved, but in theory they might perform better in 1/3 of all rain matches.
Defender
-
Powerful
- Improves pressing tactic.
- - In the sun: lose more stamina in the sun (lose also some Scoring but the negative effect happens only 1/6 of all sun matches)^ 1.
- - In the rain: gain some Scoring (not really important), Defending and Playmaking (the positive effect from weather happens 1/3 of all rain matches).
-
Head
- Improves chance of scoring on a set pieces.
- Can have negative effect from Technical wingers and forwards.
-
Technical
- A technical defender can create a non-tactical Counter Attack when you win the ball deep in your own half from a missed normal chance of your opponent. Your chances to trigger an event increases with every technical defender you have (and give you a bigger chance to create a non-tactical counter attack).
- Technical defenders are only affected when played offensive, thus making use of their playmaking ability. It has no effect on their defending abilities.
-
Support Player
-
Unpredictable (only with high passing level and assuming has sufficient high defending to reduce negative effects to ~1 every 99 matches)
- Chance can be create only with good passing and the positive event for Defenders chance of happening is about 1/3 matches and the conversion rate for this event is more than 50%.
-
Quick (only recommend to stop a quick event from wingers and forwards)
- The negative effect for defenders from weather happens about 1 time every 5 matches:
- - In the rain: lose some Scoring and Defending (the negative effect from weather happens 1/3 of all rain matches).
- - In the sun: lose some Defending (not recommended) (the negative effect from weather happens 1/6 of all sun matches).
Wing Back
The same as Defenders with little changes in event odds.
Sitting Midfielder
Same rules as Inner Midfielder unless he is a powerful one.
Powerful defensive Inner Midfielder can concentrate on breaking up attacks and winning the ball. If he succeeds in pressing, the opponent's attack breaks down. Man Marking Powerful players will have an advantage when performing man marking.
Inner Midfielder
-
Powerful- (Player with high Defence) improves pressing tactic.
- In the rain: gain some Scoring (not really important), Defending and Playmaking (the positive effect from weather happens 1/3 of all rain matches); lose more stamina in the sun and that can have a really negative effect.
- In the sun: lose some Scoring (not really important) (the negative effect from weather happens 1/6 of all sun matches).
-
Unpredictable (Player with low defending can give a chance to the opponent (the negative event is converted ~1/40 matches)- A chance can be created only by player with high passing and the positive event for IMs happens about 1 time every 3 matches and the conversion rate for this event is more than 50%.
-
Quick (only recommend to stop a quick event from wingers and forwards)- The negative effect for IMs from weather happens about 1 time every 5 matches:
- - In the rain: lose some Scoring (not really important) and Defending (happens 1/3 of all rain matches).
- - In the sun: lose some Defending (happens 1/6 of all sun matches).
Winger
-
Quick- Can create quick event (the positive effect for WIs chance of happening is ~1/6 matches and the conversion rate for this event is less than 2/3).
- - In the rain: lose some Scoring (not really important) and Defending (the negative effect for WIs from weather is ~1/5 matches).
- - In sun: lose some Defending (the negative effect from weather happens 1/3 of all rain matches).
-
Technical- Create chances if an opposing defender or inner midfielder is a head specialist.
- - In the sun: gain some Scoring (not really important) and Playmaking.
- - In the rain: lose some Scoring (not really important) and Playmaking (the negative effect from weather happens 1/6 of all sun matches).
- Note: The effect on playmaking in the sun and rain is most important when wingers are played towards the middle, thus making more use of their playmaking skill.
-
Powerful (the positive effect is not really important) - Improves pressing tactic, but loses more stamina in the sun (can have a very negative effect).
- - In the rain: gain a little Scoring ad some Defending and Playmaking (the positive effect from weather happens 1/3 of all rain matches).
- - In the sun: lose a little Scoring (the negative effect from weather happens 1/6 of all sun matches).
Defensive Forward
-
Technical- Technical Defensive Forwards (also known as Trequartista) have a boost of 33% of their Passing on wing attacks.
- Can create chances if an opposing defender or inner midfielder is a head specialist.
- - In the sun: gain some Scoring and Playmaking.
- - In the rain: lose some Scoring and Playmaking.
Forward
-
Quick- Can create quick event positive effect for Forwards chance of happening is 1/6 matches and the conversion rate for this event is more than 80%).
- - In the rain: lose some Defending (not really important) and Scoring (the negative effect from weather happens 1/3 of all rain matches).
- - In the sun: lose some Defending (not really important) (the negative effect from weather happens 1/6 of all sun matches).
-
Powerful- Size matters. If you have a big forward playing Normal, they can put their bodies in the right place, forcing a second chance to shoot and score after a normal chance for your team has been missed (keep in mind that this physical play could result in yellow cards and for that reason, if your player has already been carded, he will tread more carefully in these situations). Powerful Forwards need playmaking to get a Powerful Event (Playmaking of player VS Defending of central defenders and Scoring of your player VS Goalkeeping of the keeper).
- - In the rain Powerful forwards sometimes gain scoring skill or playmaking skill (only important when played defensive).
- - In the sun they sometimes lose scoring skill.
