Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (የኢትዮጵያ ፌዴራላዊ ዲሞክራሲያዊ ሪፐብሊክ in Ge'ez script, which is one of the oldest alphabets still in use in the world) is the most populous landlocked country in the world with over 109 million inhabitants. Its capital and largest city is Addis Ababa.Ethiopian national identity is grounded in the historic and contemporary roles of Christianity and Islam, and the independence of Ethiopia from foreign rule, stemming from the various ancient Ethiopian kingdoms of antiquity, tracing their roots to the 2nd millennium BCE.
