First half
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of 2018, taking advantage of their passable level with that tactic. Back-on-Track took the lead 6 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as Vakhtang Merchule elegantly received a long-range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. Back-on-Track's Ove Guðjónsson was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free-kick after 13 minutes. 17 minutes into the match, a typically brave header by Hồ Hữu Phương from Lê Bửu Châu's cross looped just over the opposing goalkeeper's desperate reach. Goal for 2018, making the score 1 - 1. With 35 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 2 - 1 lead as Eduardo Garardi flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. Back-on-Track solidified their lead at the 40-minute mark, as Qutugh Otchigin dribbled the ball through the opposing central defense and scored to make it 3 - 1. Hồ Hữu Phương was unable to continue, following a slight injury to his left knee after 41 minutes. Boonchuai Siribunnaharn tried to hide a smile as he entered the field. He had not expected to get a chance this day. Cheers filled the stadium as Qutugh Otchigin broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 1 to Back-on-Track. Qutugh Otchigin could have increased the lead after 43 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. The suddenness of the Back-on-Track's Shako Kazishvili's pass to Kornelius Bilon after 44 minutes caught the opposition wrong-footed, and they could only watch as the ball sailed home for 5 - 1. It was 5 - 1 at the break. Possession in this half belonged to Back-on-Track, who controlled the ball 75 percent of the time.
Second half
A great save by keeper Đặng Trường Long after 55 minutes kept the visitors in the game after Vakhtang Merchule struck from the left with a real cannonball. With 56 minutes gone, Tôn Hiếu Phong suddenly found himself completely free on the right-wing when a counterattack by 2018 caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring. The home side's Qutugh Otchigin came close to extending the lead 73 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right-hand side but Đặng Trường Long managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Back-on-Track's Shako Kazishvili increasing the lead to 6 - 1. Back-on-Track's Janick Van Lede was shown a yellow card after 88 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Vũ Văn Minh was unable to continue, following a slight injury to his left knee after 89 minutes. This gave Nguyễn Quảng Hàm a chance to take to the field instead. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 6 - 1. Back-on-Track claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 76 percent.
Post match
Back-on-Track's best player was Janick Van Lede. Shako Kazishvili on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important 2018 player was Tôn Hiếu Phong. Lê Bửu Châu turned in a dismal performance, however.
