Benin (Bénin in French, formerly known as Dahomey) is an African country. It was the 119th nation to join the Hattrick World.

Republic of Benin covers an area of 114 763 km2 (44 310 sq mi) and its population is approximately 11.5 million. Cotonou is the largest city and the seat of government.
From the 17th, the main political entity in the area was the Kingdom of Dahomey, but the territory was referred to as the Slave Coast due to the large number of enslaved people who were shipped to the New World during slave trade. After enslavement was abolished, France took over the country and renamed it French Dahomey. In 1960, Dahomey gained full independence.
