Sealand Cup XXXII was the thirty-second edition of the Sealand Cup, the friendly competition of the Sealand federation and was held in (Dutch) season 50. The final was held at Hideous Ruin on 25 May 2016, where Als Hij Ons Maar Niet Fluit defeated Sherlock's Boys 6–4. Title holder RKTVV was not able to defend their title, as they were still active in a challenger cup.

Participating teams

24 teams participated in Sealand Cup XXXII, including seven previous champions. One team made their début. Gelderse Voetballers and RKTVV were still active in a national cup tournament at the time of the draw and could eventually not participate, therefore Ploeg Van 'T Stad and Rohda Raalte (stand-by teams) entered the Sealand Cup instead.

Seeding

The draw for the group stage was held in Heeze on 6 April 2016.

Teams were seeded into four pots based on their Sealand-Coefficient. The Sealand-Coefficient was determined by league level, league results, Hatstats and results in the previous three Sealand Cups. Teams from the same region could not be drawn against each other. As title holder RKTVV did not participate, there was no Golden Group and Als Hij Ons Maar Niet Fluit (the highest-finishing team of previous edition that participated) was automatically drawn into the Silver Group.

Group Stage

The Group Stage of the thirty-second Sealand Cup ran from 13 to 27 April 2016.

Format

The teams in each group played each other in a single round-robin format, playing the other teams in the group once (at home or away). Each team earned 3 points for a win in regular time, 2 points for a win after extra time or after a penalty shoot-out, 1 point for a loss after extra time or after a penalty shoot-out and 0 points for a loss in regular time. For goal difference purposes, matches decided after extra time or after a penalty shoot-out were treated as if the match had been decided after a golden goal (regardless of the actual number of goals scored). This point system is similar to the system used by the (real-life) IIHF for international ice hockey matches. The order of play in each group was decided by draw, although all matches in the third week had to be played in the Netherlands.

The top-two teams of each group and the four best third-placed teams advanced to the second round (round of sixteen). If two or more teams were level on points, the head-to-head result was the main tie-breaking criterium.

Knockout Stage

The next stage of the tournament was the Knockout Stage. Sixteen teams qualified for this stage (the group winners and runners-up from all six groups, accompanied by the four best third-placed teams). Teams tied on points would be ranked by the results between the top-three teams only.

Draw

The teams were seeded first to sixteenth, based on their result in the group stage (only results between the top-three teams were taken into account when teams were tied on points). In the second round, the highest-seeded teams would face the lowest-seeded teams at home. The teams received a new seeding after each round, which included the results of the previous match. This means that the bracket was not fixed and all teams could face each other in subsequent rounds, depending on how they performed. One exception was made for teams that qualified from the same group: these teams could not meet each other in the second round.

The quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals were played at a neutral venue. Hideous Ruin, the home stadium of Not That Good (finalist of the previous edition), was selected as host of the final. If Als Hij Ons Maar Niet Fluit had lost their semi-final, the home stadium of title holder RKTVV would have been selected instead.

  • According to the fixtures, FC Sammie de Cavia had to play 1Utreg1, but they could not meet again (as both teams qualified from the Yellow Group). As they could not play the lower-seeded team Rohda Raalte (as they qualified from the Yellow Group as well), FC Sammie de Cavia had to play Malus Alces and thus 1Utreg1 would play HetBeste.
