We all remember our first few games. It all seemed a bit confusing. I'm sure most people can recall times where they've lost [[training]], lost games against [[bot]]s (or division six cup opponents...), or just generally seemed lost amongst the beauty that is hattrick. [[HT-Johan]] recently said that 50% of people leave within the first two months of joining, so it's crucial we reach these people.

I'm happy to take on board suggestions on how to run this. First of all I'll ask for mentors

a) simple mentoring. Things like assisting with the [[Manager License]] Challenge, setting up a training scheme, coaching, getting the [[economy]] right, basic first few months stuff.


b) indepth mentoring. Getting down to [[tactics]], what [[skills]] that influence what sector ratings, scouting opponents and the [[match engine]].

I'm not actually sure how often this is updated, hopefully at least every month. As you can see, there are 200 new teams
started just this month, so it's a massive task. I would only recommend (depending on how much time you have) 3 or 4 teams
per mentor. I'll split up the list and assign teams through this thread.

Send a HT mail to your assigned team. Understand that some may refuse help, some may be frightened why some random team has messaged them, and some will eagerly accept.


Introduce yourself, introduce the mentoring system, give them yourself and the Questions conference as a reference for any questions they have about the game. Then take it from there. Let me know when you are ready to take on new teams.

Every season, Oceania usually takes part in an 'End of Season' challenge with another Hattrick nation.  The premise is simply where a whole group of teams from Oceania play teams all from one other country, pre-arranged, in Week 15 or 16 of the Hattrick season, each nation hosting half the matches. The winning nation is the nation with the most wins.

National teams

Oceania is a league created on May 2001 (g.s. 13) as Australia. After the first season, a petition was started to rename Australia to Oceania. It was felt that Oceania better represented the region and that united it would be much stronger than as individual leagues. That petition was successful and Australia was renamed to Oceania from local season 3 onwards.

As Hattrick grew, there have been numerous calls for the league to be split into its various member countries. There have even been referenda on the issue, none of them successful.

Famous & Infamous Moments

  • Local season 3: Oceania was created.
  • Local season 5: Arthur Harris gets sent off in the quarter-final match of the first U-20 World Cup.
  • Local season ?: Bayliss leaving halfway through his U-20 managerial term. Now a bayliss is referred to when a manager leaves halfway through his term.
  • Local season 25: Hover_ wins the U20 election without posting an election speech.
  • Local season 26: April Fool's Day prank promises to rename Oceania to Pacific Islands and create Australia and New Zealand.
  • Local season 35: Angry Kirk was immortalised by the HT staff.

After a number of seasons of discussions that led nowhere, an Oceanian mentoring scheme has been started for new users and based on Scotland's. The scheme has got off to a flying start and hopefully will make a positive impact on new players.

Placebo said "If your Nat team offends thee, pluck it out and use a 4SP"

Collin Hack said "If you covet the adultery of your neighbour's wife, then shalt you implement a 10SP"

Talbourne sayeth "Why bother with all that malarkey. Stick to what we have."

Thus it was that Collin Hack supported the 4SP, Placebo the 10SP and Talbourne had a bob each way. And there was much confusion.

Before the Oceanites had survived the passover of Bayliss, there was much shonkery with purple mages and GM powers that man was not meant to know. But all knew that kitto's beard was the source of his strength, so when it was shaven off he lost in the first round of the cup and thus did hoodooguru slay collinhack and xbrookieboy to win the Oceanian Cup. Although not even God knows how.

Placebo begat LA-Rob. LA-Rob begat HPotter. HPotter begat -anonymous-. -anonymous begat -troll-. Sunners begat just about everything, as did ladyboy.

And there was much rejoicing.

Season 37: Zambora passed away

Zambora was a well known manager in the Oceania HT community. He passed away sometime in July 2012. His presence within the Oceania community will be sorely missed.
