==Knockout Stage==
The next stage of the tournament was the Knockout Stage. Sixteen teams qualified for this stage (the group winners and runners-up from all six groups, accompanied by the four best third-placed teams). Teams tied on points would be ranked by the results between the top-three teams only.

The teams were seeded first to sixteenth, based on their result in the group stage (only results between the top-three teams were taken into account when teams were tied on points). In the second round, the highest-seeded teams would face the lowest-seeded teams at home. The teams received a new seeding after each round, which included the results of the previous match. This means that the bracket was not fixed and all teams could face each other in subsequent rounds, depending on how they performed. One exception was made for teams that qualified from the same group: these teams could not meet each other in the second round.
The quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals were played at a neutral venue. ''De Thuisfluiters Arena'', the home stadium of title holders RKTVV, was selected as host of the final.

Sealand Cup XXXVI was the thirty-sixth edition of the Sealand Cup, the friendly competition of the Sealand federation and was held in (Dutch) season 54. The final was held at De Thuisfluiters Arena on 16 August 2017, where Utrechtseboys defeated Appy United 4–0. Title holder RKTVV was eliminated by De Snelle Jelles in the quarterfinals.

Participating teams

24 teams participated in Sealand Cup XXXVI, including seven previous champions. Two teams made their début. Six teams were still active in a national cup tournament at the time of the draw and could eventually not participate (note that seven teams are shown below as non-participants instead of six; it is unclear if FC Jaapo, FC Sammie de Cavia or R.C. Vozzko did not initially enter).

Seeding

The draw for the group stage was held in Heeze on 29 June 2017.

Teams were seeded into four pots based on their Sealand-Coefficient. The Sealand-Coefficient was determined by league level, league results, Hatstats and results in the previous three Sealand Cups. Teams from the same region could not be drawn against each other (except for regions with more than six participants). Title holder RKTVV was seeded into first position (regardless of their coefficient) and automatically drawn into the Golden Group.

Group Stage

The Group Stage of the thirty-sixth Sealand Cup ran from 5 to 19 July 2017.

Format

The teams in each group played each other in a single round-robin format, playing the other teams in the group once (at home or away). Each team earned 3 points for a win in regular time, 2 points for a win after extra time or after a penalty shoot-out, 1 point for a loss after extra time or after a penalty shoot-out and 0 points for a loss in regular time. For goal difference purposes, matches decided after extra time or after a penalty shoot-out were treated as if the match had been decided after a golden goal (regardless of the actual number of goals scored). This point system is similar to the system used by the (real-life) IIHF for international ice hockey matches. The order of play in each group was pre-determined (the highest-seeded team would face the teams from Pot III, IV and II in that particular order), except the Red Group, where the second and third round were switched because matches in the third week had to be played in the Netherlands.

The top-two teams of each group and the four best third-placed teams advanced to the second round (round of sixteen). If two or more teams were level on points, the head-to-head result was the main tie-breaking criterium.

  • According to the fixtures, Appy United had to play vv De Schutters and Utrechtseboys had to play F.C. Memorice, but they could not meet again (as both teams qualified from resp. the White Group and the Yellow Group). As they were the two highest- and two lowest-ranked qualifiers, no draw had to take place to determine each team's opponent: Appy United would play F.C. Memorice and Utrechtseboys would play vv De Schutters.
