Sealand Cup XXIV was the twenty-fourth edition of the Sealand Cup, the friendly competition of the Sealand federation and was held in (Dutch) season 42. The final was held at RedHeaded Mania Dome on 18 December 2013, where defending champion Kings Squad defeated National Soccer Boys 3–1 to win a record-breaking fourth title. Starting this season, the rules for extra time were changed: the golden goal rule was abandoned and in case of a draw, a full 30-minute extra time would be played in all circumstances.

Participating teams

24 teams participated in Sealand Cup XXIV, including five previous champions. Four teams made their début, including two extra clubs to make up the field.

Seeding

The draw for the group stage was held in Heeze on 30 October 2013.

Teams were seeded into four pots based on their Sealand-Coefficient. The Sealand-Coefficient was determined by league level, league results and results in the previous three Sealand Cups. Teams from the same region could not be drawn against each other.

Extra teams did not receive a score and were automatically seeded in the last positions. FC Koefidis was seeded ahead of The Soccer Boys as their participation was confirmed earlier.
A ranking error in Sealand Cup XXII resulted in wrong coefficients for R.C. Vozzko (should have been 122,000 points) and FC Sammie de Cavia (79,000 points). This did, however, not affect the seeding and - as a result - did not effect the draw either.

Group Stage

The Group Stage of the twenty-fourth Sealand Cup ran from 6 to 20 November 2013.

Format

The teams in each group played each other in a single round-robin format, playing the other teams in the group once (at home or away). Each team earned 3 points for a win in regular time, 2 points for a win after extra time or after a penalty shoot-out, 1 point for a loss after golden goal or after a penalty shoot-out and 0 points for a loss in regular time. For goal difference purposes, winning a penalty shoot-out was rewarded with one extra goal (equal to scoring a golden goal). This point system is similar to the system used by the (real-life) IIHF for international ice hockey matches. The order of play in each group was decided by draw.

The top-two teams of each group and the four best third-placed teams advanced to the second round (round of sixteen). If two or more teams were level on points, the head-to-head result was the main tie-breaking criterium.

Knockout Stage

The next stage of the tournament was the Knockout Stage. Sixteen teams qualified for this stage (the group winners and runners-up from all six groups, accompanied by the four best third-placed teams). Teams tied on points would be ranked by the results between the top-three teams only.

Draw

The teams were seeded first to sixteenth, based on their result in the group stage (only results between the top-three teams were taken into account when teams were tied on points). In the second round, the highest-seeded teams would face the lowest-seeded teams at home. The teams were re-seeded for the subsequent rounds, meaning that the bracket was not fixed and the highest-seeds would face the remaining lowest-seeded teams in the quarter-finals and semi-finals. One exception was made for teams that qualified from the same group: these teams could not meet each other in the second round.

The quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals were played at a neutral venue. RedHeaded Mania Dome, the home stadium of SC RedHead (who shared at that point the record for most titles with Kings Squad), was selected as host of the final.

According to the fixtures, FC Atse had to play HetBeste, but they could not meet again (as both teams qualified from the Black Group). Therefore, HetBeste and Dispar Vulgo FC swapped places in the match schedule.

Top Goalscorers

Robbert Jan Wullens (National Soccer Boys), Mikko Knaappila (D.W.I.W.) and Afonso Filgueiras (National Soccer Boys) became top scorer of the tournament with seven goals. Wullens received the Golden Boot on tie-breaking criteria. In total, 231 goals were scored by 129 different players.

Robbert Jan Wullens and Mikko Knaappila won the Golden and Silver Boot by virtue of scoring more field goals (seven) than Afonso Filgueiras (five). Wullens won the Golden Boot, as he scored one goal in the semi-final between D.W.I.W. and National Soccer Boys (head-to-head match), since both players were tied on minutes played (450).

Six hat-tricks were scored during the tournament. Robbert Jan Wullens became the second player in Sealand Cup history (after Bart Jansen in Sealand Cup II) to score a hat-trick for a losing team.
