Italy (Italia in local language) is a Latin European country. It was the 4th nation to join the Hattrick World.
Due to its central geographic location in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, Italy has historically been home to myriad peoples and cultures, beginning from colonies in the classical era. In the 8th century BC, an Italic tribe known as the Latins formed the first nucleus of what it is destined to become the Roman Empire, the leading cultural, political and religious centre of the Mediterranean.
During the Early Middle Ages, central Italy was under the direct sovereign rule of the pope and the Catholic Church. After centuries of foreign domination and political division, Italy was unified in 1861 under the Kingdom of Italy, then established as a democratic Republic after World War II.
History
- Italian league was created in October 2000 (global season 11).
- As part of Hattrick's initial expansion, even if younger than Sweden, the country uses the global season count (along with only Germany, England, France, Finland, Denmark, Argentina, Mexico and USA).
- Like all new leagues, the league started with 168 teams, then:
- in 2001: 4? divisions,
- in 2003: 7? divisions,
- in 2005: 9 divisions with ~33 000 active users,
- in 2007: 10 divisions with ~70 000 active users,
- in 2009: 11 divisions with ~85 000 active users,
- in 2011: 10 divisions with ~77 000 active users,
- in 2014: 9 divisions with ~50 000 active users,
- in 2017: 8 divisions with ~35 000 active users,
- in 2020: 8 divisions with ~25 000 active users.
- Italia hosted U-20 World Cup twice:
- U-20 World Cup VI: in that edition Italian NT U-20 qualified for the event, but was eliminated in Round III.
- U-20 World Cup XX: Italia became world champion.

Footnotes
- ^ Manager Vecchioleone was forced for political reasons to changed team's name from Oppostafazione to Altrafazione after season 51, just following Hattrick Masters victory.
- ^ Season is not displayed due to a system crash. League table of season 12 had to be reconstructed.
- ^ There's no winner for cup in season 12 because the final matches have never been played due to a system crash.
