The Seventeenth World Cup tournament took place from 23 December 2011 to 17 February 2012 and was held in Trinidad & Tobago.
With the 4 new entrants (Palestine, Cuba, Cameroon, O'zbekiston), the tournament introduced the format of 128 national teams divided into 16 groups of 8 each. This will become the unchanged standard of World Cup to come for several years.
Starting 29 July 2011, all team represented in Hattrick Word at the time played a total of 896 qualification matches in order to define the 32 participants to the final stage. In this tournament the host country India failed to qualify.
The final was won by Chile, at their first World Cup title. They beat Schweiz 1–0 at the National Soca Stadium in Princes Town. Suomi and Sverige had to settle for bronze medal, after both lost their semi-finals 1-2.
Argentinian player Marco Crisafulli was top scorer with 6 goals.

| We have a new top dog in national team football: Chile won the 17th Hattrick World Cup, defeating Switzerland 1-0, the goal scored after 79 minutes by Gonzalo Inostroza. Great work by coach TituladoBugnosSchool and his team, forever historic as the first non-European national team to take home the HT World Cup. Kudos also to the Swiss coach Doc_Acker, who obviously came very close as well. | |
